Real estate Barban

The municipality of Barban is located near the eastern coast of Istria, southwest of the river Raša and northwest of the Bay of Raša. It is located 20-30 kilometers from the cities on the coast (Pula, Porec, Rovinj, Labin, Rabac), and about 20 kilometers from the center of Istria, Pazin. The municipality of Barban borders the municipalities of Pićan, Sveta Nedelja, Raša, Marčana, Svetvinčenat, Žminj and Gračišće, and is well connected with all of them. It is well connected by traffic, and the main roads are: the former main road Pula-Rijeka, and the regional roads Barban - Žminj and Barban - Vodnjan.

Barban is a small historical place located on a plateau that separates the Labin region from the Pula region. The prehistoric hillfort was inhabited by the ancient Romans. Throughout history, Barban was also known for its strategic position, dominating the hills and dominating the valley and the bridge over the river Raša. Over time, the place became a fortress with walls, round and square towers, ramparts, large and small city gates and a castle. In 1535, the Venetian noble family Loredan bought it from the counts of Pazin, whose members, although only occasionally living in Barban, and represented by the captain, demolished the old castle and built a plaque and the parish church of St. Nicholas. In front of the big city gate is a small stone church of St. Anton the Abbot from the 15th century, whose interior is painted with frescoes. The most famous historical figure of Barban is Canon Pietro Stancovich (1771 - 1852), author of the book 'Biographies of famous Istrians' in which he immortalized 478 Istrian greats.
