In the past, Vodnjan-Dignano was an important urban center and today this city is an interesting destination, especially for lovers of art and culture. Walking through the old part of the city you will notice many buildings belonging to different historical periods: Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque. The museum is housed in a palace built in 1300 and belonged to the Bettica family.
The town has preserved the medieval urban character of an unfortified settlement with several ch. streets and winding side aisles, with palaces (several with Gothic and Renaissance details) and churches, the largest of which is the parish church of St. Blaža, built 1760–1850. in place of the former. It has a separate bell tower 63m high. The interior is rich in works of art, altar paintings and statues, corner. from the XIX. century (treasury with a rich collection of reliquaries and other works of art, undecomposed mummified bodies of saints and the blessed; Collection of Sacred Art of the Parish Church of St. Blaise). In the near and far vicinity of Vodnjan, about 20 churches have been preserved or are known in the remains, from pre-Romanesque to more recent XIX. st.
